SKI TOURS - ON SKINS THROUGH THE GLACIER AREA

Ski touring is becoming increasingly popular among winter sports enthusiasts. Those who love this fascinating winter sport will get their money's worth especially on the Kitzsteinhorn: special routes, a ski touring info point as well as a gastronomy offer tailored to endurance sportsmen follow the current trend.

AWAY FROM THE SLOPES, INTO NATURE

Routes such as "Snow Queen" and "Icebreaker" can already be taken from October. Further highlights for experienced hikers are the ski tour up the Tristkogel or Ronachkopf. After a 15-year standstill, the Ronachkopf, Thumersbach's local mountain, has been accessible again exclusively for ski tourers and snowshoe hikers since the 2016/17 winter season and offers wonderful panoramic views in unspoilt nature.

A MOUNTAIN FOR SKI TOURERS

In Thumersbach, opposite Zell am See, there is a whole mountain just for ski tourers, the Ronachkopf. Where a chair lift used to transport skiers to the Thumersbach ski area, there is now a prepared ascent track and a beautiful slope for downhill skiing for winter mountaineers. With a length of 2.5 km and a height difference of about 500 hm, great panoramas and a beautiful route await. After a comfortable stop at the Enzianhütte you really deserve the descent on the piste.

SNOW QUEEN & ICEBREAKER

These two ski tours on the glacier are called Kitzsteinhorn. These ski tours have a huge advantage - they allow an early start to the season, usually as early as mid-October. Due to the altitude, a great training effect is added. Both tours start at Langwiedboden. The Snow Queen ends after 474 hm at the Alpine Centre, while the icebreaker takes you over 1,019 hm to the top station of the Maurerlift. A stop at the Alpincenter is part of the tour, before you return to the starting point via slopes or off-piste.

The ski tour to the Tristkogel is a classic. The starting point directly at the Langwiedboden gondola station at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area is easily reached by cable car. From there the tour leads through beautiful terrain with great views to the Kitzsteinhorn. The summit is reached after approx. 660 metres in altitude and after approx. 3 hours. Even though the tour is not difficult, the somewhat steep summit ascent has some "special features" in store. Once a week, you can tackle this ski tour guided by state-certified mountain guides. Know-how and experience make the tour a great alpine experience.
